DETERMINATION OF ROAD WEAVING BY “SAND PATCH” METHOD
Developed by English “Department of the Environment in the specification for Road and Bridge Works”, the test is carried out by spreading a known volume of fine sand on a bounded circular area of the road surface, filling the cavity up to the peaks level. The road weaving determination comes from the values of the area and the volume of sand used for the test.
DETERMINATION OF DEFLECTION BY BENKELMANN BEAM
The test aims at measuring the deflection of flexible pavement under the action of a rolling load. The beam, normalized and measuring 2500 mm long, is made of light alloy and is positioned between the tires of the test vehicle, in contact with the pavement surface. The deflection is measured when the vehicle passes over the test area. The beam can be equipped with a loading plate in order to measure the deflection of the pavement in the middle of the plate, from a point of reference not influenced by the load.
DETERMINATION OF RESISTANCE TO SLIP WITH “SKID TESTER”
The method relates to the measurement procedures of surface friction properties, it uses a dynamic impact pendulum “Skid Resistance Tester.” This equipment, invented by the British Road Research Laboratory, consists of a pendulum with movable arm adjustable in height, at its lower end a slide is applied, covered with special rubber, pre-loaded with a springs system. You can manually use the instrument by lifting the pendulum and letting it fall grazing the surface and controlling the ascent on the appropriate scale equipped of index of maximum. The pendulum measures the energy loss due to the sliding friction of the wheel slide on the examined surface. During the measuring, it is important to detect the status of the coat (if it is wet or dry), the room temperature and the temperature of the blanket surface.
